Ninh Binh accelerates search for fallen soldiers' remains, housing support for policy beneficiary families

Ninh Binh’s authorities are stepping up the implementation of a 500-day campaign to search for, recover and identify the remains of fallen soldiers, while accelerating a housing assistance programme for families of people who rendered meritorious service during the resistance wars.

On July 13, Ninh Binh, in coordination with Military Region 3 Command, conducted an inspection of the campaign's implementation, as well as progress in replacing temporary and dilapidated houses for children of revolutionary exposed to Agent Orange/dioxin.
The inspection delegation was led by Lieutenant General Luong Van Kiem, Commander of Military Region 3, and Tran Huy Tuan, Member of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of the Ninh Binh Provincial Party Committee.
As part of the programme, the delegation offered incense in tribute to fallen soldiers at Truc Khang Martyrs' Cemetery in Quang Hung commune, Hoang Mai Martyrs' Cemetery in Dong Thinh commune, and Yen Mo Commune Martyrs' Cemetery. The delegation also inspected the collection of bone samples for DNA analysis aimed at identifying previously unknown martyrs.
Ninh Binh currently has 371 martyrs' cemeteries containing 52,971 graves, including 7,839 whose identities have yet to be determined.
From May 25 to July 12, local authorities collected bone samples from 108 cemeteries, obtaining 3,920 samples. Of these, 2,917 have been transferred to the Military Institute of Forensic Medicine for DNA testing.
Alongside efforts to identify fallen soldiers, the province is also accelerating support to eliminate unsafe and temporary housing for the children of resistance activists affected by Agent Orange/dioxin.

A provincial review identified 281 eligible households. So far, construction has begun on 136 houses, with 46 already completed.
Concluding the inspection, Lieutenant General Luong Van Kiem commended Ninh Binh for its proactive implementation of the 500-day campaign and the housing support programme for policy beneficiary families.

He urged the province to continue mobilising resources with the goal of completing bone sample collection by December 2026, while expediting the construction and renovation of homes for all 281 eligible households.
The effective implementation of the campaign reflects Vietnam's tradition of honouring those who sacrificed for the nation and demonstrates the Party and State's continued commitment to people with meritorious service, while strengthening policies supporting military families and veterans in Ninh Binh./.
