The Ninh Binh Provincial People's Committee has just issued a decision to establish an inter-agency task force to strengthen inspection, supervision, and handling of illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing activities in the province.
According to the decision, the IUU task force is headed by a representative from the Department of Agriculture and Environment. Its deputy heads include representatives from the provincial Border Guard and the Fisheries and Fisheries Surveillance Sub-Department. Members of the task force include representatives from relevant departments and agencies such as the Department of Public Security, the provincial Inspectorate, the Department of Justice, the Department of Industry and Trade, the Department of Science and Technology, the Fisheries Port Management Board, and police forces in many coastal communes.
The task force is tasked with developing operational regulations, organising reviews, verifications, and handling violations in fishing; and coordinating with relevant agencies to propose effective measures to prevent IUU fishing.
The results will be compiled and reported to the Provincial People's Committee and central agencies as prescribed. In addition, the task force has the right to propose the mobilisation of personnel when necessary and operates on a part-time basis. After completing its mission, the task force will dissolve itself according to regulations.
The establishment of the IUU task force aims to implement the Government's directives, contribute to overcoming shortcomings in fisheries management, move towards sustainable fisheries development, and meet the requirements of international organisations on combating illegal fishing./.
