According to the provincial Department of Tourism, in the period of 2020-2025, the tourism sector has overcome difficulties and made a strong comeback.
In 2021, the province welcomed only 1 million tourist arrivals but the number soared to 8.7 million in 2024. It is estimated to serve 9.1 million visitors in 2025.
In the first half of this year, the province welcomed around 7.2 million tourists, representing an increase of 17% from the same period last year and making 79.1% of the yearly plan.
The average annual growth rate in the whole period was 23.02%, an impressive figure that reflects the sustainable recovery and tourism potential of the locality.
Number of international tourists rises strongly and domestics visitors play key role
In 2021, the province served 13,000 international tourists, a strong decrease from 196,000 visitors in 2020. However, the number of foreign travelers saw a strong recover recovery, with 1.5 million in 2024. Ninh Binh expects to welcome 1.85 million international visitors in 2025.
In the first half of 2025, the province welcomed over 1.04 million international holidaymakers, a year-on-year increase of 153.7% and making 56.54% of the yearly plan.
The annual average growth rate of international visitors in the period of the 2020-2025 period reaches 45.37%. The outcome is clear evidence of the tourism promotion programmes.
Meanwhile, domestic visitors have continued to play a vital role in the province’s tourism growth.
The number of domestic tourists rose from 2.43 million in 2020 to 7.2 million in 2024. The figure is expected to hit 7.25 million in 2025.
In the first six months of 2025, the province welcomed over 6.15 million domestic visitors, a year-on-year rise of 113.25% and making 84.88% of the yearly plan.
The province saw an annual average growth rate of 19.99%, thus affirming the sustainable role of the domestic market in the locality’s tourism structure.
Tourism revenue sees strong growth
Together with the increase in the number of tourists, the province’s tourism revenue has also seen strong growth.
In 2020, Ninh Binh’s tourism revenue was only 1.58 trillion VND and the figure rose to 9.17 trillion VND in 2024. The sector is expected to earn 10 trillion VND in revenue in 2025.
In June, the tourism sector earned nearly 718 billion VND, representing a year-on-year increase of 48.07%.
In the January-June period, the province’s tourism revenue was estimated to reach 7.71 trillion VND, up 32.68% from same period last year.
In June, tourism activities have been bustling with a wide range of cultural and tourism events. Notably, Ninh Binh Tourism Week 2025 themed “The Golden Colour of Tam Coc – Trang An” has attracted a huge number of domestic and foreign visitors.
According to the statistics, the province welcomed 661,000 visitors in June, making a year-on-year increase of 48.05%. The number of guests staying overnight were 155,000 with 169,000 days.
To maintain the growth pace, the province has continued to improve the quality of services, ensure social order, environmental hygiene and civilized behaviours.
Tourist sites and destinations have invested in infrastructure and facilities, and trained workforce to meet the increasing demand of visitors.
With its comprehensive efforts, Ninh Binh has been affirming its role as an attractive, friendly and safe destination, thus contributing to the province’s socio-economic development and positioning its tourism brand in the national and global tourism maps.
