The Trang An Festival is a traditional annual festival held to commemorate and honor Saint Quy Minh Dai Vuong, one of the deities worshipped in folk beliefs.
He was one of three brothers, also generals, who were canonized as saints: Tan Vien, Cao Son, and Quy Minh. He contributed to defending the Nam Son Pass, one of the four Hoa Lu fortresses, protecting the country during the reign of the 18th Hung King.
Delegates offer incense to pay tribute to Saint Quy Minh Dai Vuong.
The event serves as an opportunity to educate about the traditions and remember the merits of ancestors, further honoring the historical depth and enduring value of the Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex.
In addition to allowing local people and tourists to offer prayers for national peace and prosperity, favourable weather, and abundant harvests, and to honor the ancestors who pioneered and protected the sacred land of the Trang An Heritage Site, the organisers aim to convey the message: “Humans must respect, preserve, and live in harmony with nature.”
In that sense, the festival is deeply rooted in the unique Vietnamese culture, spirituality, and environmental protection.
The Trang An Festival is also known as the Forest Opening Ceremony, based on the belief that the forest is closed year-round, and people are absolutely forbidden from exploiting it. Only on the 17th day of the 3rd lunar month are people allowed to enter the forest for controlled exploitation.
Therefore, the Trang An Festival is not just a celebration, but also a community commitment: to live within the heritage, preserve the heritage, and pass it on to future generations.
The festival attracts a large number of locals and visitors from across the country.
Participating in the festival, people and tourists can immerse themselves in unique activities such as the dragon procession, palanquin procession, water procession, and rituals at Suoi Tien Temple, starting from the Trang An boat dock area, following the water reflecting the majestic mountain ranges to Suoi Tien Temple to perform rituals of offering incense, flowers, and offerings to the altar of Saint Quy Minh Dai Vuong, praying for national peace and prosperity, favourable weather, and a bountiful harvest. and enjoy cultural performances such as Cheo singing, Xam singing, Van singing and gong music.
This is a unique event that helps Ninh Binh's tourism industry develop sustainably, linking the preservation and exploitation of heritage in a responsible manner./.
