In recent times, forest tourism has been chosen by many tourists when coming to experience and explore Ninh Binh province. However, there are always potential risks along with the experiences close to nature.
This poses an urgent need to tighten management, improve incident response skills, as well as increase awareness of prevention for tourists and local tourism workers.
Complying with destination regulations
Cuc Phuong National Park currently has many routes and points serving tourists to explore nature in the forest. However, currently, the park's tour guide team has only about 10 people, not meeting the needs of tourists, especially during holidays.
On these occasions, the Cuc Phuong National Park Management Board must mobilise more human resources to participate in guiding tourists from the Forest Ranger force or other units.
To prevent visitors from getting lost or having problems when they do not have a tour guide or do not travel with a group, the Management Board always has recommendations right from the moment visitors buy tickets at the reception desk.
The receptionists will inform visitors of the routes allowed to visit and guide them on necessary measures in case they get lost.
After the incident of a male tourist from Hai Phong who had an accident and died while traveling in the park in August 2025, the unit has increased warning activities, controlled illegal trekking activities and developed rescue plans. In particular, the park has stepped up communication activities to visitors.
Pham Kien Cuong, Director of the Cuc Phuong Environmental Education and Service Centre (Cuc Phuong National Park) said that the unit always puts the safety of visitors first, so it has advised everyone to absolutely not trek or go deep into the forest without the guidance of the authorities and tour guides.
In addition, the unit also regularly organises training courses to improve the skills of guiding and protecting forests for tour guides and forest rangers; equipping them with initial handling, rescue and first aid skills in many situations such as tourists getting lost, being bitten by snakes, bitten by insects or having unexpected accidents.
Raising awareness of prevention
Ninh Binh is a locality with many outstanding eco-tourism destinations such as Cuc Phuong National Park, Van Long Wetland Nature Reserve, Trang An Eco-tourism Site, and Xuan Thuy National Park. Exploring the primeval forest through popular activities (such as: hiking, mountain climbing, cycling, kayaking, visiting caves, camping...) is increasingly attracting tourists.
Ensuring safety for tourists in the province has been regularly paid attention to by authorities at all levels, sectors and business establishments. However, in reality, there are still many potential risks that affect the lives and health of tourists, leading to a number of accidents when traveling in the forest.
Vu Thai Duong, a tour guide from Hanoi, said that for tours to explore the primeval forest, travel companies need to train and send experienced tour guides who are knowledgeable about the terrain and have rescue skills to join the group.
In particular, tourists need to immediately notify the tour guide or the Management Board if they feel tired, get lost or have an accident; absolutely do not trek or go deep into the forest without the guidance of the authorities or tour guides.
According to Nguyen Cao Tan, Deputy Director of the Ninh Binh Department of Tourism, in recent times, the provincial tourism sector has issued documents directing tourist areas and spots to strengthen measures to ensure security and safety for tourists when visiting and traveling; especially widely promoting skills for tourists when participating in adventure tourism.
Tourists traveling to these destinations need to strictly follow the recommendations, safety instructions, prepare their health, and have appropriate equipment before participating in adventurous ecotourism and exploring in the forest, he said.
To ensure the safety of tourists, the provincial Department of Tourism has requested the Management Board of ecotourism areas and destinations to increase recommendations, place warning signs, instructions, and set up markers. At the same time, they have been requested to coordinate with the Forest Ranger and security forces to strictly control illegal trekking activities; and publicise Ninh Binh province’s tourist support phone number and the phone number of the Management Board of tourist areas and destinations in visible locations.
In addition, the Management Board of ecotourism areas and destinations needs to coordinate in developing and implementing rescue plans; prepare vehicles to be ready to search, rescue and rescue tourists in all situations, he said./.
