Le Duc Tho Memorial House recognised as National Historical Site

The People’s Committee of Hong Quang ward held a ceremony on October 10 to pay tribute to Le Duc Tho, who was a former Politburo member and Secretary of the Party Central Committee, announce the official decision and receive the certificate recognising his memorial house as a national historical site.

Attending the ceremony were Le Quoc Chinh, Deputy Secretary of the Ninh Binh Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Council; Le Nam Thang, former Deputy Minister of Information and Communications and son of comrade Le Duc Tho; and members of the provincial Party Committee’s Standing Boardincluding Nguyen Duc Toan, Head of the provincial Party Committee’s Commission for Publicity; Tran Anh Dung, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee; and Tran Minh Thang, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People’s Council of Nam Dinh ward. Representatives of provincial departments, agencies and several communes and wards also attended.
At the memorial site, in a solemn and reverent atmosphere, delegates offered incense and observed a moment of silence in tribute to Le Duc Tho, a veteran revolutionary leader of the Communist Party of Vietnam and a steadfast communist who made significant contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation.
Born Phan Dinh Khai on October 10, 1911, Le Duc Tho grew up in Dich Levillage, Nam Van commune, Nam Dinh province, now Dich Le residential area in Hong Quang ward, Ninh Bình province. He came from a family with a strong tradition of learning, patriotism and revolutionary commitment.
During more than 60 years of revolutionary activity, he held various positions across different fields and was entrusted by the Party and State with a number of key responsibilities, including Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Party Central Committee’s Organisation Commission and Adviser to the Party Central Committee.
He made particularly notable contributions on the diplomatic front. As Special Adviser to the delegation of the Government of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam at the Paris Peace Talks, he demonstrated political resolve, strategic insight and exceptional negotiating skills. His role contributed significantly to the signing of the Paris Peace Accords in 1973, paving the way for the liberation of southern Vietnam and national reunification.
To commemorate his life and contributions and preserve the historical values associated with his revolutionary career, the former Nam Dinh provincial Party organisation, authorities and people built the Le Duc Tho Memorial House in his hometown in 2011, marking the 100th anniversary of his birth. The site is located in the place where he was born, grew up and spent his formative years. It preserves numerous artefacts and photographs documenting his revolutionary career.
In 2018, the memorial house was recognised as a provincial-level historical site by the provincial People’s Committee.
At the ceremony, Bui Van Manh, member of the provincial Party Committee and Director of the Department of Tourism, announced the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s decision to designate the Le Duc Tho Memorial House as a national historical site.

Addressing the event, Le Quoc Chinh called on authorities, departments and localities at all levels to strengthen the preservation and promotion of the site’s historical value.
He also urged them to research, collect and supplement archival materials, photographs and artefacts documenting Le Duc Tho’s life and revolutionary career, while making better use of these resources.
Chinh emphasised the importance of developing the memorial house into a “red address” for educating officials, Party members and the public, particularly younger generations, about patriotism and revolutionary ideals.
The official also called for greater application of science and technology, alongside digital transformation, to preserve the site, improve public access to its historical resources and promote its cultural and educational value./.
