Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Tran Anh Dung said the province has instructed the Department of Agriculture and Environment to coordinate with relevant agencies to propose policies for occupational transition and decommissioning of fishing vessels that no longer operate, and to support the replacement and maintenance of vessel monitoring system (VMS) devices in accordance with Decree No. 37/2024/ND-CP.

Presiding over the 16th session of the National Steering Committee on combating IUU fishing on October 7, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh called on all-level Party Committees, authorities and functional forces to demonstrate the highest spirit of responsibility in serving the nation and people as well as overcome all challenges to fulfill their duties.

Ninh Binh province’s authorities are implementing comprehensive measures to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, focusing on strict handling of vessels, those without proper registration, licenses, inspection cerificates or monitoring equipment while updating the provincial fishing vessel database into the national VNFishbase system.

Ninh Binh province has stepped up efforts to implement the Party and Government’s directives on combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, focusing on strengthening sustainable exploitation, improving fishermen’s livelihoods, and safeguarding the maritime sovereignty.

As the European Commission (EC) is preparing to conduct the 5th inspection, Ninh Binh province - a locality with a traditional fishing industry and a significant offshore fleet - is focusing on implementing drastic solutions, both to overcome existing problems and to strengthen the foundation for sustainable fisheries management, aiming to have the EC’s "yellow card" lifted as soon as possible.

The People's Committee of Ninh Binh province has just sent an official dispatch to departments, sectors, and People's Committees of communes with fishing vessels exploiting aquatic products on strengthening the fight against illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing and strictly implementing the directives on fighting against IUU fishing and removing the "yellow card" warning of the European Commission (EC).
