Ninh Binh is a locality famous for many traditional craft villages. Not only creating livelihoods for millions of rural workers, craft villages have also played a role as a resource opening up opportunities for sustainable development for the province's cultural industry.
Accordingly, the general goal of the plan is to preserve, develop and enhance the value of traditional occupations and craft villages, considering this a key task in rural economic development associated with new-style rural area construction. It aims at preserving and promoting the cultural and historical values of occupations and craft villages as an important part of the province's heritage.
The plan is expected to develop craft villages into a driving force for the rural economy, contributing to economic restructuring, promoting technological innovation, digital transformation and environmental protection, towards sustainable development.
It aims to build Ninh Binh into a centre of traditional craft villages in the Red River Delta, with domestic and international influence. In addition, the plan focuses on developing rural occupations and craft villages to preserve the value and cultural identity of craft villages and exploit the potential of rural areas; improving production and business efficiency, increasing income, creating stable jobs, improving the material and spiritual life of the people.
Specifically, in 2026, the province aims to recognise 5-10 new craft villages; restore at least two craft villages at risk of fading away; organise training for about 300 workers and commune-level managers on craft, production management, marketing, e-commerce, and labour safety; honouring artisans and outstanding artisans, proposing to recognise outstanding artisans and national-level people's artisans; and support the construction of some new brands/collective trademarks or geographical indications.
The province will build typical craft village tourism routes, associated with heritage - culture - experiential tourism and spiritual tourism. It will develop model craft villages that meet the criteria of green - clean production, applying digital technology, associated with tourism and having strong brands;
To achieve the set goals, the province will review and evaluate the potential strengths and limitations of occupations and craft villages.
Ninh Binh will restore, preserve and develop craft villages and traditional craft villages at risk of fading away by supporting capital, techniques, training young people, organising performance activities, and passing on crafts.
In particular, the province will develop craft village tourism through the construction of a number of typical craft village tourism routes: Hoa Lu - Tam Coc - Van Lam route (embroidery); Trang An - Bo Bat - Ninh Van route (ceramics, fine art stone); Kim Son - Phat Diem - Con Noi route (sedge, handicrafts), Pham Phao brass trumpet village, Hai Minh fine art wood village associated with the Ecohost Hai Hau community tourism route; and Quyet Thanh pottery village associated with the spiritual tour of Ba Danh pagoda - Tam Chuc - Huong pagoda.
In addition, Ninh Binh will develop experiential tourism products, and connect craft villages with cultural and spiritual tourism through integrating festivals, customs, cuisine with sightseeing and shopping activities of craft village products.
