Implementing the nationwide 500-day campaign to step up the search, collection and identification of fallen soldiers’ remains, Ninh Binh province has excavated nearly 3,000 unidentified martyr’s graves in 72 cemeteries across the province since May 2026.
Of these, over 2,700 samples have been collected. To date, over 2,100 biological samples of unidentified martyrs' remains have been handed over by the Ninh Binh Provincial Steering Committee 515 to the Military Forensic Institute for DNA testing.
Collecting biological samples of martyrs' remains is one of the key tasks of the 500-day campaign to step up the search, collection, and identification of martyrs' remains with incomplete information. According to the plan, Ninh Binh province will collect samples from more than 7,000 unidentified martyrs' graves at 361 martyrs' cemeteries in the province in 2026 and subsequent years.
This is a very large workload, requiring close coordination between specialised agencies, military forces, local authorities, and relevant units. DNA testing not only contributes to gradually identifying the identities of heroic martyrs, fulfilling the aspirations of their relatives and families after many years of waiting, but also demonstrates the principle of "drinking water, remembering the source" towards those who sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland.
