Under the province’s digital transformation plan for the 2021-2025 period, Ninh Binh’s tourism sector is striving to synchronically develop a smart tourism ecosystem and apply AI, tourist virtual assistant and other advanced techniques to serve tourists, community, travel firms and state mangament agencies so as to turn tourism into a spearhead economic sector. In the past few years, a number of popular local tourist attractions in the province such as national special relic site of Hoa Lu; Trang An ecological site, Tam Coc- Bich Dong, Cuc Phuong National Park, Thien Ha cave have applied QR Code to provide information for visitors.
Apart from applying QR Code, the conservation center of Hoa Lu ancient capital has also stepped up the use of 3D mapping, artificial intelligence (AI), and 360-degree imagery in a bid to enrich experiences for visitors.
Le Thi Bich Thuc, Vice Director of conservation center of Hoa Lu historical relic site, said currently, the center is home to around 1,000 items and artifacts, including numerous precious artifacts such as 50 royal ordination documents and five national treasures.
Some of them have been kept carefully and protected from harmful conditions. They are rarely displayed. Thanks to applying digital transformation, these items and artifacts have been preserved scientifically and introduced to visitors easily via digital platforms.

Pham Duy Phong, Vice Director of the provincial Department of Tourism, said the tourism sector has concentrated on implementing the Party’s policies and the State’s laws and resolutions on digital transformation and building tourism ecosystem such as building a tourism digital system serving state management, inspection and support tourists; applying smart tourism apps; providing free wifi and tourism kiosks to support travellers at local destinations; and applying virtual tourist guides.
The department has also handled 100% of documents online.
Besides, the sector has regularly worked with the Tourism Information Center under the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism and the Tourism Magazine to introduce Ninh Binh’s tourism on e-newspapers and digital media.
The sector has also advertised Ninh Binh’s culture, tourism potential and destinations on social platforms such as Facebook, Zalo, TikTok and Youtube, attracting thousands of subscribers and followers.
Digital transformation has helped lure more and more visitors to Ninh Binh.
In recent years, Ninh Binh has continuously been highly evaluated by domestic and world organisations. In 2020, the US’s Trips to Discover named Ninh Binh on the list of 14 most attractive destinations in Asia. In 2022, the US’s Travel and Entertainment Magazine announced Ninh Binh on the list of 12 most beautiful filming locations in Asia.
In 2023, Ninh Binh won the Tourist Review Award, entering the top 10 friendliest destinations in the world. The US’s Forbes Magazine voted Ninh Binh as one of the 23 most worth visiting destinations in the world. In April 2024, Ninh Binh was placed fourth in the “Top 10 Crowd-Free New Wonders of the World”./.
