Mergence of Ha Nam, Nam Dinh and Ninh Binh provinces hoped to create breakthroughs in agricultural production
With rich, fertile land and traditional farming practices, the merged province will become a vast production area, serving the development of hi-tech agriculture, value chain and agri-tourism.
Sustainable agriculture from vast production area
The mergence of Ha Nam, Nam Dinh and Ninh Binh provinces will open up a new direction for agriculture of the Red River Delta.
These provinces have fertile soil with traditional farming practices.
After mergence, the new province of Ninh Binh will cover a total area of 4,000 sq.km with 4.4 million people. The new province could exploit these advantages to implement modern agriculture models and hi-tech application and management.
Nam Dinh province has been a rice granary in the North with immense paddy rice fields and stable productivity.
Ha Nam province has strengths in planting cereals such ass maize, potatoes, beans and livestock breeding.
Apart from planting rice, Ninh Binh has developed some models of orchard planting such as pineapple, grape, custard apple and safe vegetables. Ninh Binh is also named among top localities nationwide in freshwater and brackish water aquaculture. In particular, the province is expanding organic planting areas with hi-tech application to serve export.
The diversity of Ninh Binh's agricultural ecology is an important link in the overall picture of the merged region, helping to balance between cultivation, livestock and aquaculture.
After the mergence, the large production area will be planned synchronously from cultivation, livestock to irrigation and processing.
At the same time, the application of scientific and technological advances to production such as high-tech agriculture such as greenhouses, drip irrigation, sensors or organic production will be deployed on a large scale.
These are potential to attract investment from domestic and foreign enterprises.
Developing value chains and agri- tourism
The mergence also creates great opportunities to build a sustainable agricultural value chain.
The mergence of Ha Nam, Nam Dinh and Ninh Binh provinces will form a vast production area.
With abundant raw materials, this region can attract investment in building processing factories, cold storage, and logistics centres for export. Local specialties such as Hai Hau rice, Dong Giao pineapple, Kim Bang orange, Ninh Binh pig or Mong Nam Dinh chicken will easily build regional brands, increasing competitiveness at home and abroad.
Along with production, agri-tourism is also a strength. Ninh Binh is famous for Trang An, Tam Coc, Bich Dong. Ha Nam and Nam Dinh have many craft villages, historical sites and rural landscapes.
When connected into one region, this area can strongly develop agricultural experience tourism. This model not only diversifies tourism products but also increases income for rural people.
The synchronous development of agriculture and tourism will create a sustainable economic ecosystem. People not only live on agricultural products but also have additional income from tourism services and handicrafts. This is a way to improve farmers' lives, retain young workers in rural areas and develop a green economy.
However, to make the idea a reality, careful preparation is needed. The mergence cannot be rushed, but must be comprehensively studied from planning, administrative organisation to policy mechanisms.
The mergence of the three provinces of Ninh Binh, Nam Dinh, and Ha Nam is not only a change in boundaries but also an opportunity for the Red River Delta to develop and build a modern, efficient and sustainable agriculture.
When production, processing, trade and agricultural tourism are closely connected, people will be the first beneficiaries, with stable income and a better life. Thereby, this land can completely become a new type of "agricultural super granary", a place of abundant, green, clean, high-quality production and attracting tourists and investors./.
