Transport infrastructure gives boost to Ninh Binh’s socio-economic development
Having been awared of the special role of transport to socio-economic development, Ninh Binh has defined developing infrastructure modernly and synchronically, especially transport infrastructure as one of three breakthroughs for the 2020-2025 tenure.
Strategic works and projects
The East-West road (first phase) is a clear evidence for the great efforts of the Ninh Binh’s political system and local people in realising the vision and orientation of modernising the transport infrastructure in the province.
The East-West road (first phase) holds a strategic role in linking key regions and fostering the province’s socio-economic development and neighbouring areas.
After 36 months of construction, the road was completed, 20 months ahead of schedule.
The East-West road is the largest transport project approved by provincial authorities, with total investment capital of nearly 2 trillion VND.
The project was inaugurated on April 19 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification.
Ninh Binh is enjoying a robust transformation with a number of key transport projects.
Notably, numerous key projects have been completed and put into operation such as the eastern North-South expressway’s Cao Bo – Mai Son and Mai Son – National Highway 45 sections; the project on upgrading DT 477 road; and the project on connecting NH12B and NH21B.
Recently, work has started on Ninh Binh - Hai Phong expressway’s section running though Ninh Binh province.
This is seen as strategic transport axis, connecting coastal provinces in the North with North-South expressway.
The province is studying and proceeding investment procedures for the project on building the East-West road (second phase); and a road connecting the East-West road and Ho Chi Minh trail in order to connect with provinces in the Northwestern region.

Expanding development space
The Resolution of the 22nd Congress of the Party Organisation for the 2020-2025 tenure defined developing infrastructure, especially transport infrastructure, as one of the three breakthroughs.
With its high political determination, the province has mobilised all resources to invest into key projects so as to create momentum for drawing investment, spurring socio-economic development and restructuring the economy in a sustainable manner.
In 2024, the province invested over 4.3 trillion VND in developing transport systems.
Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Pham Quang Ngoc underscored the importance of the two projects on expanding the North-South expressway’s Cao Bo – Mai Son section and the Ninh Binh – Hai Phong expressway’s section running through Ninh Binh province.
He requested the participation of the whole political system to hasten the progress, while asking the investors and contractors to mobilise all human resources and machines to speed up construction.
Modern transport systems would help Ninh Binh to fully exploit its potential in terms of geography, culture and tourism to turn itself into a captivating destination and realise the aspiration of becoming a centrally-run city by 2035.
