The project on expanding the Eastern North-South Expressway’s Cao Bo Mai Son section is one of the key national projects that holds strategic significance in developing infrastructure and creating a driving force for economic growth of localities in the Red River Delta region.
Contrators are speeding up construction at the Eastern North-South Expressway’s Cao Bo Mai Son section expansion project.
In the current hot and harsh weather conditions, construction units are still maintaining an urgent working spirit, determined to bring the project to the finish line soon.
Key project for regional strategic connectivity
The project on expanding the Eastern North-South Expressway’s Cao Bo Mai Son section is invested by the Ninh Binh Department of Construction. The route has a total length of more than 17 km, with a total investment of over 1.87 trillion VND from the central budget.
The project aims to improve operational capacity, meet the increasing transport demand, minimise traffic accidents, support socio-economic development in Ninh Binh province, gradually completing the road network planning for the period of 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050.
The expressway will be expanded from 4 to 6 lanes, with a roadbed of 32.25 metres wide, and a design speed of 100-120 kilometres per hour.
The project started on March 7, 2025. Immediately after the project started, the investor has closely coordinated with the contractor to organise the construction with the spirit of "overcoming the sunshine and the rain, working in "3 shifts, 4 teams" working day and night, including Saturdays and Sundays. Up to now, the entire route has completed site clearance.
A representative of the Department of Construction said currently, the investor and the construction units are determined to speed up the progress and remove all difficulties to shorten the construction time.
The investor and the construction contractor have proposed to the Ministry of Construction a number of solutions to adjust the road surface construction plan for some previous sections. With this construction plan, Ninh Binh province is determined to strive to complete and put the project into operation and use on the occasion of the anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day on April 30, 2026, shortening the construction time by about 10 months.
Determined to “finish the job” early
In recent days, the weather in the North has been erratic, with intense heat mixed with sudden showers. However, the working atmosphere at the construction site is still urgent and continuous. The contractor has increased manpower and equipment, divided into 3 shifts and 4 teams, simultaneously speeding up the progress at all construction sites.
According to a report of the Department of Construction, the project is currently being implemented simultaneously with 11 construction sites. The volume of implementation has achieved many positive results.
The project creats a driving force for economic growth of localities in the Red River Delta region.
The total value of the main completed construction volume is estimated at 214.9 out of 1,029 billion VND, equivalent to 20.9%. The accumulated capital allocated for the project is 1,200 out of 1,875.616 billion VND. The accumulated disbursement value to date is 371 out of 1,200 billion VND.
In order to strive to complete the key project on schedule or ahead of schedule, the Department of Construction and the Project Management Board have assigned teams to regularly inspect and supervise the site. Contractors are requested to make detailed plans each week, proactively procure materials on site, and promptly handle any problems.
The Department of Construction's leaders also affirmed that they will regularly work with the contractor to adjust, promote progress, and ensure project quality. When completed, the route will not only serve traffic but also be an infrastructure "boost" for the entire region, supporting the development of tourism, industry, and services, and reducing pressure on the old National Highway 1.
