Though facing complicated weather developments and epidemics, Ninh Binh province’s fishery sector continued to maintain its growth momentum in terms of farming area, output and value.Local farmers also developed new species local farmers also developed new species.
The province’s aquatic product output was estimated to reach 72,500 tonnes in 2024, a year-on-year rise of 4.7%.
Of the volume, the aquaculture output reached 64,600 tonnes while the catch output hit 7,900 tonnes, representing year-on-year increases of 4.8% and 5.3%, respectively.
To date, the province’s total farming area was nearly 15,000 ha and the total value of fishery production was nearly 2.3 trillion VND, up 3% as compared to the previous year.
Fresh water aquatic product output reached over 29,000 tonnes, up 2% against that of 2023.
The outcomes were attributed to a shift from extensive and semi-intensive to intensive aquaculture and application of hi-tech in farming. At the same time, local farmers also developed new species such as mastacembelus armatus, pila polita and scampi.
Scampi farming have brought about high income for local farmers in Nho Quan district.
Brackish farming areas were not be affected by natural disasters. Therefore, prawn and white-leg shrimp output increased. Local farmers also bred some species with high value such as blood clam and babylonia areolate.
The province continued to produce breeding oysters and clams with 100 million oysters and clams in 2024. They have been sold to many cities and provinces nationwide.
In 2025, the fishery sector expects to increase aquatic product output to over 74,000 tonnes and with a growth rate of 5%.
The sector will pay due attention to applying hi-technologies and advanced and circular production methods.
