Lao Ambassador attends ceremony commemorating Princess Nhoi Hoa in Ninh Binh

Attending the ceremony were Lao Ambassador to Vietnam Khamphao Ernthavanh and Standing Vice Chairman of the Ninh Binh provincial People’s Committee Tong Quang Thin, among others.

According to old documents, under the reign of King Le Thanh Tong, Princess Nhoi Hoa was entrusted to bring and train a herd of elephants for Dai Viet. Unfortunately, on the way back to her country, she was severely ill and passed away at Den hill in Son Lai commune (now Phuc Son commune) of Nho Quan district. 

King Le Thanh Tong assigned local people and soldiers to build a temple dedicated to Princess Nhoi Hoa on Den hill.

Throughout hundreds of years, the Thuong Temple worshipping Princess Nhoi Hoa has been recognised as a provincial historical site.

A traditional ceremony commemorating the princess is held annually on the 3rd day of the 3rd lunar month. Many rituals and folk games are held, especially the Champa muang dance to promote sound relations between Vietnam and Laos.

Lao Ambassador to Vietnam Khamphao Ernthavanh said that the temple is a special historical and cultural relic site that represents the solidarity between Vietnam and Laos.

The diplomat expected that Ninh Binh will continue to pay attention to preserving and upgrading the Temple so as to turn it into a cultural and historical tourism site, thus attracting a large number of Lao and international visitors.
