Initial excavation findings in Tan Hoa hamlet in Truong Yen commune unveiled

In mid-December, the family of Nguyen Tu Quy in Tan Hoa hamlet in Truong Yen commune of Hoa Lu district unearthed a suspected old citadel when building his new house. Immediately, the excavation at Tan Hoa hamlet was carried out by the Division of Cultural Heritage under the Department of Culture and Sports from December 22-30 and experts from the Vietnam Institute of Archaeology.

The excavation has provided new information related to the construction of Hoa Lu citadel as well as adequate knowledge about Hoa Lu citadel under the Dinh, Tien Le dynasties in the 10^th century.

Artifacts found at the excavation site have been photographed, drawn and scanned by 3D to serve detail study in the next period.

From the outcomes of excavation, the Department of Culture and Sports needs to further study the Hoa Lu citadel in the North-Eastern part and related sites and launch an action plan to clarify the scale, technical condition, space and construction technique of the Hoa Lu citadel, thereby contributing to devising the whole citadel, its structure and the road lead to the Hoa Lu citadel during the Dinh- Tien Le dynasties
