Provincial People’s Committee works with KEPCO E&C on cooperation in new energy development

Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Binh on July 30 received and worked with Jang Hyun-young, Head of Research at KEPCO Engineering & Construction Co., Inc. of the Republic of Korea (RoK).

At the meeting, Jang introduced the capabilities of KEPCO E&C. He stated that the company has extensive experience in consulting, designing, and researching energy technologies, including nuclear power, combined-cycle gas power, offshore wind power, and energy storage systems.
KEPCO E&C expressed its desire to learn more about the investment environment, energy development orientation, and electricity infrastructure of Ninh Binh province. The company suggested the province introduce suitable locations for research, surveying, and implementation in areas where it has strengths.
Representatives from KEPCO E&C also introduced the small modular reactor (SMR) model that the company is researching and developing; and proposed the two sides soon sign a Memorandum of Understanding to promote cooperation in the field of new energy.

Speaking at the meeting, Binh provided information on Ninh Binh’s socio-economic development. He stated that in the first six months of 2026, the province's industrial production index increased by approximately 27%, nearly three times the national average.
Binh noted that along with the high industrial growth rate, the demand for electricity in the province is increasing. Currently, the substations supplying electricity to the province are operating at about 80% capacity. Therefore, investing in expanding electricity infrastructure and diversifying energy sources is an urgent requirement to serve the province's development goals in the coming years.
Regarding the proposal to research the model of a small modular nuclear reactor, he stated that this is a new field with great potential, requiring further research and careful consideration based on its alignment with the national energy development policy and the regulations of Vietnamese law.
At the same time, the Chairman agreed on the principle of researching and signing a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the Ninh Binh Provincial People's Committee and KEPCO E&C; assigning relevant agencies to coordinate with the company to draft and clearly define the content and scope of cooperation for early signing.
Binh affirmed that Ninh Binh always values and highly appreciates the reputation and capabilities of Korean businesses. The province will cooperate and create favourable conditions for KEPCO E&C to research, survey, and implement projects in accordance with planning and legal regulations.
The official also expressed his hope that KEPCO E&C would continue to connect and introduce Korean businesses to explore cooperation and investment opportunities in Ninh Binh./.
