The sampling process will be carried out in accordance with technical procedures issued by the Ministry of National Defence, ensuring strict compliance, accuracy and confidentiality to prevent errors or mix-ups during excavation, sample collection, transport, handover and preservation.
The provincial Steering Committee 515 has instructed agencies, sectors and local authorities to conduct a comprehensive review of unidentified martyrs’ graves. It also called for the enhanced application of scientific- technological advances and digital transformation in managing and updating data on martyrs’ remains, ensuring connectivity and synchronisation with the national database on people with meritorious services.
To ensure effective implementation, the provincial Military Command has been tasked with coordinating with relevant departments and agencies to prepare sufficient personnel, equipment, materials and other necessary conditions for the sampling process.
Meanwhile, the provincial Department of Home Affairs will review and manage data on martyrs, guide the restoration of graves after samples are collected, and update identification results in the database.
The provincial Department of Public Security will lead the collection of DNA samples from martyrs’ relatives, conduct genetic matching and store the results in the national gene bank, while also ensuring security and safety throughout the implementation process.
Earlier, from May 21 to 25, 2026, the provincial Steering Committee 515 selected Yen Phuong martyrs’ cemetery to conduct a pilot exercise and draw lessons before rolling out the programme simultaneously at other martyrs’ cemeteries across the province.
Beyond being a political task, the collection of DNA samples from martyrs’ remains carries profound humanitarian significance, reflecting Vietnam’s enduring traditions of gratitude and remembrance for those who sacrificed their lives for the nation. It is also an expression of responsibility, respect and deep appreciation from today’s generation towards those who heroically gave their lives for the country's independence and freedom./.
