The mountainous district of Nho Quan on February, 21 held a ceremony to open its annual cultural and sports festival of ethnic minority groups.Special art programme at the opening ceremony.

Attending the event were Pham Quang Ngoc, Vice Secretary of provincial party committee, chairman of provincial people’s committee; Dinh Viet Dung, Head of the provincial Party Committee's Inspection Board and Head of Ninh Binh’s delegation of NA deputies; Tong Quang Thin, Standing Vice Chairman of provincial people’s committee, among others.

In his opening speech, Hoang Khac Tiep, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Nho Quan district stressed that Nho Quan is a cradle of revolution and boasts to rich cultural heritages with 317 tangible and 110 intangible heritages.
In the past few years, the locality has paid special heed to preserving and promoting both tangible and intangible cultural values of ethnic minorities in the locality. The district has spent resources on restoring the traditional culture of Muong people, he noted.
Every year, the People's Committee organises a cultural and sports festival of ethnic groups so that people can enhance exchanges through cultural and artistic activities. The event also helps introduce and spread the beauty of unique cultures of different ethnic groups in the district, thus raising the awareness of local people on preserving the traditional values.
The festival features with numerous activities, such as an opening ceremony, sport activities, art performances, camping, folk games and a trade fair showcasing cultural and agricultural products and specialties of the district and an exhibition.

Various traditional folk games like crossbow, stilt walking, "con" throwing, and bamboo swings have attracted a large numbers of participants.
