Vietnamese, Cambodian leaders discuss bilateral ties over phone

Trong congratulated Cambodia on its tremendous achievements and expressed his hope that under the clear-sighted leadership of the Senate, the National Assembly, the Government of Cambodia, Cambodian people will overcome all difficulties in order to continue reaping greater achievements, thus bringing prosperity to Cambodia and contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world as a whole.

He stated his appreciation for the Cambodian government's management, and the solidarity of the Cambodian people in the COVID-19 pandemic fight, and in socio-economic development.

The top Vietnamese leader extended thanks to Cambodia for its close coordination with Viet Nam within the bilateral framework as well as the ASEAN cooperation framework, asking the two nations to step up cooperation in the pandemic fight and maintain border trade.

Regarding the issue relating to people of Vietnamese origin in Cambodia, Trong expressed his hope that Cambodia will continue offering optimal conditions for them to stabilize their lives in the country, thus contributing to the development of Cambodia and enhancement of  the bilateral ties.

The Cambodian PM congratulated Viet Nam on successfully organizing the 36th ASEAN Summit, affirming his nation's great support for Viet Nam's ASEAN and AIPA 41 Chairmanship in 2020 and non-permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council for 2020-2021.

Hun Sen expressed his belief that under the leadership of the Communist Party of Viet Nam, Vietnamese people will obtain greater achievements in the renewal process and successfully organized the 13th National Party Congress.

He extended thanks to Viet Nam for sharing its experience in the fight against COVID-19 and for supporting Cambodia in this regard, pledging that Cambodia will continue offering the best possible conditions for people of Vietnamese origin to settle in the country.

The two leaders spoke highly of the intensive and extensive development of the cooperation between the two Parties and the two countries across various fields, bringing practical interests to the countries.

They agreed to work together on the implementation of joint statements and agreements, along with preparing for the 18th meeting of the Viet Nam-Cambodia Joint Committee, and the 11th meeting on cooperation and development between border provinces of Viet Nam and Cambodia when possible.

The pair shared the view on the historical significance of the signing of two documents recognizing the achievements of land border demarcation and marker planting, and agreed to push ahead with necessary procedures to put the documents into place.

The leaders agreed to continue negotiations to deal with the remaining border work towards building a shared border line of peace, stability, cooperation and development.
