Ninh Binh relocates 94 households to safety amid flooding

According to the provincial Steering Committee for Civil Defence, as of 10 on September 17, flooding had affected 3,042 households outside dyke-protected areas, mainly in Gia Vien, Thanh Son, Gia Tuong, Phu Son, Dai Hoang, Phu Van and Thanh Lam communes, among other localities.

The province has relocated 94 households in areas outside dykes to safer locations.

Response forces moved 23 households from the area outside the Nhan Pham dyke in Yen Mac commune, 51 households from the area outside the dyke in Phong Doanh commune, and 20 households from the area outside the dyke in Thanh Tuyen residential quarter, Chau Son ward, to safety.

A total of 11,465 hectares of rice-growing land have been affected in localities including Nghia Lam, Quy Nhat, Rang Dong, Gia Hung, Hoa Lu and Chat Binh.

Flooding has also disrupted roads, schools and the daily lives of local residents.

Regarding the flood situation, water levels on the Hoang Long River have peaked at 4.42 metres at Ben De hydrological station, 0.42 metres above Level III alert, at 14:00 on September 17. The water level is currently changing slowly.

At 9:00 the same day, the water level recorded at Phu Ly hydrological station stood at 4.57 metres, 0.57 metres above Level III alert, and was still rising.

Across the province, 739 fixed electric pumps, 194 main drainage sluices, one reservoir sluice and 27 spillways are currently in operation. Other facilities are ready to be activated to drain water for agricultural production, urban areas and industrial parks.

In response to the flooding, the Ninh Binh Steering Committee for Civil Defence has asked local authorities to closely monitor weather forecasts and promptly notify residents in high-riskareas.

Response forces have also been instructed to closely monitor vulnerable areas and actively relocate residents living along riverbanks, in low-lying areas and locations at risk of flooding and landslides.

Local authorities are urgently carrying out drainage measures and ensuring that local response forces remain ready to provide timely assistance./.
