Aspiration for industrialization
From the 6th day of the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026, the shipbuilding site at Thai An Cuong Co., Ltd. in Ninh Cuong commune, Ninh Binh province, was bustling with the sounds of welding mixed with the cheerful laughter of workers on the first working day of the new year. Everyone enthusiastically got to work with the determination to complete orders on schedule.
Luong Viet Thang, a technician of the company, shared that everyone was excited to be on the construction site at the beginning of the year. This year, the company has many new orders, so leaders and workers in the company are trying to work safely and ensure quality to deliver on time to customers.
As a company specialising in the design, construction, and repair of domestic cargo ships with a tonnage of 4,000-10,000 tonnes, Thai An Cuong Co., Ltd. is one of the leading shipbuilding enterprises in Ninh Cuong commune and Ninh Binh province. With a well-organised and large-scale dock and yard system covering three hectares, and modern machinery such as CNC cutting machines, semi-automatic welding, and large-capacity cranes, the company builds approximately 15 ships annually to serve transportation businesses and individual customers nationwide.
Luu Thanh Tung, Director of Thai An Cuong Co., Ltd., stated that in January 2026, the company signed contracts to build four new ships. Currently, the order is fully booked for the entire year.
“The company wishes to expand its production scale. However, the lack of land and obstacles related to legal procedures concerning docks, wharf areas, and waterway protection corridors are major challenges,” Tung said.
With the advantage of 10 km of the Ninh Co River and 60 hectares of riverside alluvial plains, Ninh Cuong's inland waterway economy is being effectively exploited step by step. Currently, the commune has 11 wharves and docks operating in the inland waterway sector; including six ship repair and shipbuilding wharves and one passenger ferry terminal. This serves as a foundation for the commune to promote the shipbuilding and waterway transport industries.
Dang Hong Giang, Vice Chairman of the Ninh Cuong Commune People's Committee, said that the commune has reviewed the current state of inland waterway wharves and docks in the area, clearly assessing the advantages, potential, as well as existing difficulties and obstacles to develop a suitable plan for exploitation, management, and development. Based on this, the locality is gradually completing legal documents, reorganising wharf and dock operations according to the plan, and creating favourable conditions for shipbuilding and repair facilities to expand production, ensuring waterway traffic safety and environmental protection.
Persisting with growth targets
After the merger, Ninh Binh province has a natural area of approximately 3,942 km2 and a population of about 4.4 million people. Ninh Binh is located in a strategically important geographical position as the "gateway" to the South of the Northern Delta, situated on the North-South economic corridors, along the Gulf of Tonkin and East-West. It is also a connecting point for three major economic regions: the Red River Delta, North Central Coast and Central Coastal region, and the Northern Midlands and Mountains.
In 2026, the province strives to achieve a Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) growth rate of 11%, maintaining double-digit growth. State budget revenue in 2026 is expected to exceed 80 trillion VND (3.07 billion USD).
Chairman of the Ninh Binh Provincial People's Committee Tran Huy Tuan said 2026 is of special importance, being the first year of implementing the Resolution of the First Provincial Party Congress and the Resolution of the 14th National Party Congress, and implementing the 2026-2030 Five-Year Plan.
To achieve the set goals and tasks, the province is focusing on accelerating the progress of projects such as the Ninh Binh-Hai Phong expressway; the Day River overpass, the Nam Dinh-Lac Quan-Ninh Co coastal road, and the road connecting the Ninh Co Economic Zone, and the Cao Bo-Mai Son route. Upon completion, these projects will expand the development axis, strengthen regional linkages, and enhance the province's competitiveness.
In addition, the province is accelerating the construction and operation of infrastructure in industrial parks and economic zones, especially the Ninh Co Economic Zone and key industrial parks currently under development such as: Dong Van III Supporting Industrial Park (east of the Cau Gie-Ninh Binh expressway), Dong Van V Industrial Park (Phase I), Dong Van VI Industrial Park, Phu Long Industrial Park, and the expanded Gian Khau Industrial Park, to attract strategic investors and create a ripple effect for the entire economy.
In particular, Ninh Binh has developed specific growth scenarios and added value targets for each sector and industry to proactively monitor and control; organised post-investment monitoring and project progress supervision; simultaneously promoted administrative reform; strengthened coordination among sectors and localities in implementing investment projects; resolutely dealt with projects behind schedule; and promoted investment and trade promotion./.
