Ninh Binh province boasts a lot of potential and advantages to develop its fishery sector as it has a 15-kilometer coastline and over 6,200 hectares of brackish water surface and over 20,000 hectares of inland fresh water surface for aquaculture. In addition, the province's fishery sector has an abundant and experienced workforce. These potential and advantages have helped the local fishery sector develop strongly in recent years, thus contributing greatly to the province's economic structure, increasing incomes and creating jobs for local people and stabilising the socio-economic situation.
In the past few years, localities in the province such as Gia Vien, Nho Quan, and Yen Mo districts and Tam Diep city have expanded aquaculture areas and have successfully converted ineffective paddy rice fields into aquaculture areas.
Besides, administrations at all levels and sectors, especially the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and its subordinate agencies, have step up efforts to transfer aquaculture techniques and production technologies to farming households.
At the same time, the provincial departments, sectors and localities have constantly sought measures and investment policies to develop and upgrade infrastructure in aquaculture areas, create favourable conditions for economic sectors to participate in aquaculture and apply scientific- technological advances in production.
In particular, Ninh Binh has issued numerous policies to help the fishing and aquaculture sector develop its goods production and export, thereby increasing incomes for local people.
Under the provincial People's Council's Resolution 32, collectives and households will be provided with financial assistance to build models and expand production.
The resolution also encourages localities and farmers to apply scientific and technological advances in order to increase production, quality and value of aquaculture products, and to expand aquaculture areas to 14,900 hectares with value of production of 2.45 trillion VND, with an average growth rate of 6% per year.
