The National Vovinam Championship opened at Tran Quoc Toan Gymnasium in Nam Dinh Province on October 10, attracting 450 coaches and athletes from 36 teams across the country.
The athletes will compete for 48 sets of medals in 22 performance and 26 combat events.
The ten-day event is held jointly by the National Sports Administration, the Vietnam Vovinam Federation, and the Nam Dinh Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
The championship aims to create a venue for Vovinam coaches and athletes to exchange experience, thus improving their skills and techniques.
It is also an opportunity to identify outstanding athletes for the national Vovinam team to attend major tournaments in the region and the world in the coming time.
Founded in the 1930s, Vovinam is developed based on the principle of combining 'hard' and 'soft'. It is not only about training the body, but also the mind.
Vovinam has spread widely to the world with more than two million practitioners in nearly 70 countries and territories around the world.
