Leaders of Ministry of Construction and Ninh Binh Provincial People’s Committee inspect progress of key transport projects

The Ninh Binh Provincial People’s Committee on January 28 coordinated with the Ministry of Construction to inspect the progress of the expansion project of the eastern North-South expressway’s Cao Bo - Mai Son section (CT.01), and the project for building Cao Dong bridge, upgrading weak bridges and connecting bridges on National Road (second phase), funded by the Republic of Korea's Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF).

Deputy Minister of Construction Le Anh Tuan, Vice Chairman of Ninh Binh Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Cao Son and leaders of relevant departments and localities joined the inspection delegation.
According to the report, the eastern North-South Expressway’s Cao Bo Mai Son section expansion project is currently continuing with the completion phase, adding two lanes to the left side of the existing route. This expansion ensures a complete six-lane highway standard, with a design speed of 100-120 km/h, a roadbed width of 32.25 m; and a total length of 15.3 km, starting at the Cao Bo interchange and ending at the Mai Son interchange. The total investment for the project is over 1.87 trillion VND from the central budget.
The project commenced construction on March 7, 2025, and its progress has largely met expectations. The main components have been and are being implemented simultaneously.
Regarding the Cao Dong bridge project, which involves the renovation of weak bridges and connecting bridges on national highways (Phase II), using EDCF loan capital from the Korean Government, land clearance and construction preparation are currently underway.

During the inspection, relevant agencies from the Ministry of Construction, Ninh Binh province, communes, consulting units, and construction contractors raised concerns about accelerating the project's progress. They focused on proposing solutions to overcome obstacles and difficulties during construction; and addressing land clearance issues for the Dong Cao bridge project, which involves the renovation of weak bridges and connecting bridges on national highways (Phase II).

Regarding the eastern North-South Expressway’s Cao Bo Mai Son section expansion project, the Cao Bo - Mai Son section is identified as an urgent project requiring prompt implementation. According to the contractor's commitment, the section will be technically open to traffic by April 30, 2026, and completed by June 30. Therefore, during construction, the contractor needs to implement technical solutions to ensure both progress and quality of the project. Simultaneously, traffic congestion and safety issues must be avoided during construction.
Regarding the Dong Cao Bridge Project, the renovation of weak bridges and connecting bridges on national highways (Phase II), relevant departments and the authorities of Dong Thinh and Yen Cuong communes should expedite the completion of land clearance and handover of the construction site to the contractor as soon as possible, the said./.
