Hai Ly beach church climate change relic site recognised as tourist attraction

Under the decision, the Hai Tien Commune People’s Committee is responsible for managing, operating and developing the Hai Ly beach church climate change relic site in accordance with regulations.

The provincial Departments of Tourism; Finance; Construction; Agriculture and Environment; and Public Security, within their respective functions and responsibilities, are tasked with coordinating with and providing guidance to the Hai Tien Commune People’s Committee in managing, operating and developing the tourist attraction effectively and sustainably.

Hai Ly beach church is, in fact, the remaining relic of the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a historic architectural structure closely associated with the formation and development of the former Xuan Dien fishing village(Hai Hau district, former Nam Dinh province). In 2005, after 60 years of existence, the church was severely damaged by Typhoon No. 7.

Beyond being a unique and attractive tourist destination along Ninh Binh’s coast, the Hai Ly beach church climate change relic site in Hai Tien commune is also of particular importance for the study and preservation of geological and geomorphological relics. It provides a record of changes in the coastline under the impacts of climate change, sea-level rise and extreme weather events.

The recognition of the Hai Ly beach church climate change relic site as a tourist attraction not only establishes the destination within the local tourism system but also creates a foundation for promoting its values while ensuring their long-term preservation./.
