The Cuc Phuong National Park Management Board held a conference on March 20 to announce and launch the Cuc Phuong National Park Wildlife Restoration Plan for the 2026-2035 period, with a vision to 2050.
Representatives of Cuc Phuong National Park and Vietnam's center sign cooperative agreement to implement the Cuc Phuong National Park Wildlife Restoration Plan for the 2026-2035 period, with a vision to 2050.
At the conference, a representative of the Cuc Phuong National Park leadership announced a decision promulgating the Cuc Phuong National Park Wildlife Restoration Plan.
At the conference.
The goal of the plan is to establish and implement a wildlife restoration programme in the Cuc Phuong National Park to restore native wildlife populations, enhance the ecological functions of the forest ecosystem, and contribute to biodiversity conservation through rescue, rehabilitation of instincts, reintroduction of animals into their natural environment, forest management and protection, and increased community participation in conservation efforts.
The plan's objectives for the 2026-2035 period aim to restore species populations and the ecological functions of forest ecosystems. They include strengthening the protection of ecosystem integrity, eliminating logging activities, reducing hunting and trapping of wild animals to levels that no longer affect the development of wild animal populations in nature, and aiming for near-zero levels.
The plan aims to restoring wildlife habitats, prioritising the creation of diverse habitats suitable for previously native species.
It also eyes re-establishing populations of ecosystem-building species, especially primates, carnivores, hoofed mammals, rodents, reptiles, and amphibians (White-faced langur, White-cheeked gibbon, Deer, Civet, Small-clawed otter, Porcupine, etc.) with a survival rate of over 70% after reintroduction.
The plan is expected to enhance connectivity with forest ecosystems to ensure animals can move and interact effectively within the landscape and surrounding areas; and ensure the benefits of buffer zone communities through a results-based conservation payment mechanism and biodiversity credits.
At the conference, delegates presented several topics to improve the effectiveness of the Cuc Phuong National Park Wildlife Reforestation Plan.
At the conference, representatives from the Cuc Phuong National Park and the Wildlife Conservation Centre in Vietnam signed a cooperation agreement to implement the Cuc Phuong National Park Wildlife Reforestation Plan.
The implementation of the Cuc Phuong National Park Wildlife Reforestation Plan is of significant importance and value in restoring the functional integrity of broadleaf forest ecosystems, creating a model for forest regeneration.
At the same time, this makes the Cuc Phuong National Park a "pioneering destination" in the global reforestation movement, demonstrating Vietnam's strong commitment to the global call for action to prevent and reverse ecosystem degradation worldwide./.
